If you don't recall spamming yesterday, how bout over the weekend? A lot of companies work in the business day model and that often leaves Sat, Sun and Mon as one day, so the ban maybe because you sat around this weekend selling?

Personally I sell just fine in game using the trade chat and party search menu, and people do use them because I have gone afk with an item in the party search and came back to buyers PM's. Anyways sorry bout your luck, if its an error hope its fixed. More so I hope this thread tell people to not spam WTS in all chat and use the trade chat and party search menu.

Miral, it is indeed amazing, but maybe these Public media are not so public, as u still need to sign/accept an agreement. However chatlogs only revealing your spams (not the converstaion of others, much like CIA documents that have been made public ^^) should be no problem I would think?
well, public as far as any game player is concerned... so if they send it to the e-mail his account is registered under...

yay - it might also be helpfull to add a line to their ban message that says " use trade chat and this wouldn't happened." - other then that thank you.

suggestion: write this change of policy enforcement on the game notes inside the client, not everybody visit forums, still the quantity of spam is the same it seems

(guys, you cant even post names of other people from the game on this forum, so why would you expect ANet to do so? (its a standard privacy policy and they like any gaming company is not required to show you logs etc. )

I cant speak for ANet but from my time admining in DoDS and CSS game servers, when i am considering banning someone i ensure i am 110% sure it is ban worthy. On rare occasions i am maybe 90% sure..and that is only in the case of people cheating which in some cases can be incredibly difficult to pick up in real gametime, so in such cases i always review my demo recordings until i am beyond reasonable doubt, and then i ban. (spamming ingame is rather easy to pickup on compared to deciding if someone is using the latest 'undetectable' aimbot in Counterstrike :P (oh and we never gave out demos/logs either)

The reason i point this out is that, i, as an unpaid server admin on those servers for a business company, take such great care to get my bans right and justly...how much more so for a huge business liek ANet which relies upon revenue from its players...

ie. Im sure that ANet lets a lot of people get away with a lot things..and thus i would imagine it is the worst offenders, beyond doubt of an error, that do get banned. (obviously mistakes can happen..wrong id's get copied or something, but generally i reckon ANet are lenient)

edit - agreed, ANet should definitely make note at login screen, even if only to cut down on work for themselves. I had also thought they had posted about this in the update section of their offical website.. but they didnt.. :S They only put it in Gails update section of their wiki

Definately a good suggestion Code=007, like the players note to protect your account. That way they can't excuse themselves anymore.

i like the fact that 1000's of people are getting blocked because of spam.

wouldn't it be kool to sit in kamadan and have a 2 second process to block peoples accounts?, the power trip would be come soo overwhelming you actially start getting tired and eventually give up the job.

conclusion:
haha

Its a step in the right direction, but uninformed people are going to take the axe...hard.

Think about it, only about 30% of GW's population ever steps foot into the Forums, and only a even smaller 20% has a clue this is going on, at the MOST.

Anet NEEDS NEEDS NEEDS NEEDS to put an annoucement in the Login screen saying the following.

"Improvments to Trade Chat: Starting today, those who mass spam in All chat, and do not use the Trade Chat as it is intended will be banned for x amount of hours to x amount of hours depending on what you do"

More and MORE and MORE people are going to be banned if they don't know this is being taken into effect.
---------

With that said, Anet NEEDS NEEDS NEEDS to improve Party Trade Search section. The text is much too small, and it totally defeats the purpose. Party Channel needs to be improved, please please!
---------

One cannot go with another. Anet can't simply Ban people without them having any clue they are doing anything wrong. After all, for the past 2 years people HAVE been trading in All chat, and will continue.

A notice needs to be put up on Login Screen, and Party Trade Search NEEDS to be improved.

Anet, you are doing this TOTALLY wrong! I'm sure dozens if not hundreds of people were banned, and they don't know why because they DON'T use the forums!

/gahhhh

This reminds me of those Dateline NBC "To Catch A Predator" things.

"Why did you come here?"
"Uh... I don't remember."
"You brought condoms, what were you intending to do?"
"Uhh..."

Well, in the EULA, spamming is specifically addressed as a violation.
Anet just decided to enforce that policy.
You have been informed! You have always known spamming was a violation, yet you chose to do it anyhow. That's your bad, not Anet's.
I find it funny that anytime someone gets banned, they are innocent, just like everyone on death row is innocent or that person doing 70 in a 55 wasn't really speeding.
You got banned most likely because you deserved to get banned, end of story.
Maybe now a person can actually chat in town, maybe the search feature will be used...I see nothing bad coming out of Anet's laying the "SMACKDOWN" on spammers. Good job and about time.

Well I sent a support ticket, maybe they can atleast infrom of me of when my infraction was made.. been playing for 25 months and never had anything like this happen to me before... I wish some sorta notice would have been made, the only thing I even recall saying in local chat was LFG LB/SS.

As for anyone else.. sure its in the EULA. and im sure people skim though that.. but you walk into Kamadam and you see 100's of people spamming all day long.. I simply don't do that.. then I lb/ss all day and I get banned?

Eh i'll just wait for the email and see I guess.

I'm not saying im innocent, I just wanna be made aware of when I broke the law.

It's like driving you get pulled over and you don't know why.. you know you where not speeding.. and the cop pulls you over for an out tail light.

atleast he tells you why you've been "Blocked"

I just hope support tells me some detail. I dont mind waiting 72 hours not to play guild wars... during the week its fine.

I might have spammed over the weekend like one person said.. but honestly I know I didn't do anything diffrent this weekend that I havn't for the last 25 months.

Well, but there it is, afterall, why you were temp banned. It doesnt matter that you were doing this for the past 25 months and never got banned before. All that matters is Anet is finally taking measures to limit trade spam on the All Channel and this was in dev notes and topics on this forum. All that matters is that its different now. Take heed in the future and stay on Trade Channel when selling.

And, ty Anet.

ANY kind of spamming is annoying.

Don't spam "lfg" 3 times in a row, or every 5 seconds

Don't spam "lend me 30G" 3 times in a row, or every 5 seconds

Sounds like no error was done here.

The fact that you got banned after awhile is pretty concerning.

Being pulled over isn't much of an analogy. I think suddenly charging people for jaywalking, even though millions if not billions of people do it, is more accurate.

Gaile did make a post in Guru about moderating trade in General chat. I'm not sure where else she posted it. It would be cooler if it was on the GW log-in screen.

How so? Sounds like he/she was All Channel spamming over the weekend (which is possibly Sunday) and banned less than 48 hours later (support can confirm if this was so and if its justified). Not all that long a turnaround time. If you mean instead why would Anet enforce this now rather than not having done so all this time? I have no idea. All I can say is about time.

I do agree though that there should be an announcement right on the login screen that this can happen (like Protect Your Account) as well as a message there should you be temp banned as to why it happened so the player knows. It would also save Anet support some work.

Well, I don't know about your case, Chestnut, but I am relieved to hear that bans are being handed out. Hopefully I can turn local chat back on.

As far as the trade window goes, I've only used it once (Kamadan). I typed in that I wanted to buy rit greens and got 4 people PMing me within 30 seconds. Got everything I was looking for nice and quick. Just wasn't prepared for it. Was haggling with 4 people at the same time.

Err.. Gaile, it should not be at all hard to write a tiny parser program to redact the chat log to include only the statements by the user in question.

Personally, I think you should do exactly that. Start responding to false claims of erroneous bans with irrefutable redacted chat logs, and pretty soon people will stop bothering to try to fool support. What's more, I think that, when there's a false "I was erroneously banned" thread on the forums (note: I am NOT commenting on this particular thread), I think you might be well served to simply reply with the redacted chat log. Surely, by putting their own comments at issue, someone who starts such a thread waives any right they may have to privacy in those statements. I cannot think of a better way to decisively end such a thread, or to discourage future false claims, or to back up your statement that many such threads are false.

Even when I am trying to sell stuff I refrain from spamming...and now that this policy is being enforced I'm staying in the trade channel and party search. When I sell stuff is rare though...I prefer having fun while playing a game...

No one bothers to use the Party Search feature....I'm standing in the Remains of Sahlahja right now and the player tab of the party search window is empty...despite several people spamming in all chat...

now that they are enforcing it...I'm reporting it...

http://www.thunder-god.net/images/ga...rty_search.jpg

yes I submitted a ticket on this person...

what I don't get is the people who believe they need to spam things multiple times despite the fact that there isn't enough activity to warrant it...(the ONLY place I ever consider it to be busy enough to warrant it is Lion's Arch District 1...but even then...it's still spamming and I try to avoid those busy as hell districts)

hope more people get banned so they'll learn their lesson...you have no one to blame but yourself...the community is not on your side...so stop the spamming.

and yes Anet should put a note about spam on the login screen...like was said...not everyone visits the forums...put them on notice and people will learn more quickly.

WT[S] my stuff 2
WT[S] my stuff 3
WT[S] my stuff 4
... and so ...

it's so annoying. >_<

And now, hopefully it can ban you.
